FETZER VINEYARDS
Hopland, California

Fetzer Vineyards, is one of Northern California’s leading manufacturers of fine wine long known for its environmentally friendly practices in growing grapes and making wine.

Fetzer Vineyards, has exemplified its commitment to sustainable living with the 40kW PV system installed on the roof of its administration building, also built of all recycled materials. The new power system will produce enough energy to bottle about 1.2 million bottles of wine annually. The system, which is utility tied, has the ability to sell excess energy to the local utility company, as well as draw upon the public utility power if a lengthy spell of cloudy weather should temporarily reduce the PV system’s power output. The system will pay back its initial investment in 13 years.

“The installation of photovoltaic panels on the Fetzer Vineyards Administration Building marks another milestone in our continuing quest toward sustainability of our winery. We are especially pleased to have our neighbors and friends at Real Goods oversee the project.” (Jeff Oldham, Project Manager/Designer
